4个月以前不能哺授母乳而完全用牛乳代替喂养的小儿为人工喂养儿。人工喂养的婴儿，每天究竟要吃多少牛奶呢？现在大多数的小婴儿都是用婴儿配方奶粉，可按1：4的比例冲调成牛奶，即一平匙的奶粉加四平匙的水冲成与鲜牛奶相同的浓度。出生1-2周小婴儿因消化功能及肾脏的排泄功能较差，因此宜冲得稀一点，可用1：6-7比例冲调，1个月后渐增至1：4比例的全奶。100ml牛奶中加糖5克，即5％含糖牛奶。每天100ml含糖5％的全奶供热能为86千卡。婴儿所需要热能为每天每公斤100-110千卡。
　　每个婴儿的胃口不一样，在计算量的基础上适当增减是正常的。检查人工喂养是否满意的最好方法是每月称量一次，如果体重能按正常速度增加，即表示人工喂养成功。
